IIM Kozhikode will be organizing the Calicut mini-Marathon 2014 on the 23rd of February 2014 in association with the Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS), Govt. body under Kerala Health Department and MOHAN Foundation. The event launch ceremony was held on 26th November 2013 and was graced by the presence of renowned Malayalam actor, director and singer Vineeth Srinivasan.
Vineeth heaped praise on the institute and the initiative and unveiled the logo for 2014. The Director, IIMK, Prof. Debashish Chatterjee declared the marathon open and encouraged students to participate in the organ donation drive.Dr. Soman Jacob, CEO, Baby Memorial Hospital spoke at length about the process of organ donation and launched the website www.calicutmarathon.com. Representatives from KNOS and the District Sports Council also attended the event.
This year the marathon is espousing a less-discussed social cause. The theme is ‘Gift a life- organ donation’. Keeping in mind the sordid transplant scenario in India, Calicut mini Marathon’14 endeavors to mitigate apprehension, dispel negative notions and promote organ donation. The marathon features two categories, a 10 km mini-marathon which is a competitive race and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non‐competitive run featuring people from all walks of life. Over the past four years, the marathon has been taking up a unique cause every year- having focused on critical issues of women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people and waste management in the past.
